How we started - a letter from the founder

Founded in April 2003, Baby Beats is a business born from my own personal experience. Having used a baby doppler for much-needed reassurance, I wanted to pass on this opportunity to other expectant parents.

When I suffered a missed miscarriage during my second pregnancy, I thought that I could never face the uncertainty of early pregnancy again. When I fell pregnant again, I was (as I expected!) a complete wreck.

I tracked down a professional-quality baby doppler and overnight my pregnancy was transformed. It was no longer a traumatic ordeal to be endured, but a wonderful time to be enjoyed. Whenever I felt my old worries surface, my husband simply held our doppler against my stomach and we listened to the reassuring sound of our baby.

For my husband it was a revelation. He had the same worries as I did, but couldn't get time off work for routine antenatal appointments. The doppler meant that he could get the reassurance he needed at home at his own convenience. It also meant that he felt far more involved in the pregnancy.

A few weeks later, when I was fourteen weeks into my pregnancy, I thought that I could feel the baby moving. I would have dismissed this as wishful thinking, wind, or mummy-madness, if it had not been for my doppler. As I felt a fluttering, I heard the 'doinks' and 'bangs' of baby movement loud and clear through my doppler. Identifying baby movements this early was incredibly exciting, and further 'proof' that my baby was well and active inside me.
